Open-work materials

The term 'Open-work materials' as it applies to the area of reclamation can be defined as ' Poorly-graded (uniform or gap-graded gradation) gravels, cobbles and boulders with few fines in the matrix, resulting in a deposit containing a large amount of interconnected void space through which seepage water (and soil particles) can easily move'.
